FENNEL SEED OIL BENEFITS: THE BEAUTY HACK TO HEALTHY HAIR

posted in: Hair care tips | 0

For many families, Fennel or Foeniculum vulgare is a favorite kitchen staple for the crunchy, sweet flavor it brings to any meal. Apart from the that, none of its parts go to waste: The pale green bulb can be added into a soup or salad; the leaves can enhance the flavor of pasta; while the seeds can be used as spice and made into oil.

From free-radical fighting antioxidants to phytonutrients, Fennel Seeds are loaded with over 80 vitamins and minerals that you wouldn’t get from your average vegetable. This makes it an excellent remedy for many hair and scalp conditions.

Stimulates Hair Growth
Free radicals are detrimental to the hair. Without enough antioxidants in the body, free radicals can cause oxidative stress, which impedes hair growth and causes thinning. Fennel seeds are packed with antioxidants, as well as nutrients like pantothenic acid, iron, molybdenum, copper, folate, iron, and niacin that stimulate hair growth.

Fights Oxidative Stress
Almost 15% of Fennel’s nutritional value is made up of vitamin C, making it a very potent antioxidant. Vitamin C is also a known electron donor, which help prevent oxidative damage caused by imbalance of free radical levels in our body.

Oxidative stress can manifest in a variety of ways, from breakage to hair loss as a result of rapid aging. The only way to counter this is to use products containing vitamin C, like Oway After-Sun Hair Mask. The Fennel extract in this hair mask will help strip the hair and scalp of free radicals after a day in the sun.

Moisturizes the Hair
Many consumers make the mistake of overloading the hair with protein to keep it looking shiny and healthy. But nothing could be further than the truth. Our hair strands have no natural lubrication, so they rely on the oil produced in the roots to keep them looking shiny and nourished. An overabundance of protein can throw off the natural pH balance of the hair and scalp, resulting in hygral fatigue and dry scalp. The antioxidants and antimicrobial properties of Fennel tones the hair and scalp, stripping them of elements that are causing dryness, including protein buildup.

Cleanses the Scalp
According to research, Fennel Seed Oil effectively inhibits the growth of a wide spectrum of bacteria and fungi.1 Due to its acetone, n-butanol, ethanol and ether content, fennel extract is great for treating conditions like dandruff and eczema, and calming irritated scalp. Those with sensitive skin would benefit from using Oway Soothing Remedy Spot Treatment for its healing and moisturizing properties.

All About Cezanne

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Cezanne is non-toxic, naturally safe and effective. There is no vapor or fumes, so no need for masks, gloves or ventilation during the treatment—it’s nature’s way of smoothing.

Our smoothing treatment is 100% formaldehyde-free. It’s also free from any other kinds of aldehydes and harmful toxins, for that matter, and it’s as long-lasting as the current top products.

It’s hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested, won’t irritate the scalp and won’t release any noxious gases. Cezanne actually strengthens the hair, using a revolutionary low pH technology that restores bonds that are broken or damaged during thermal, mechanical or high pH services.

What are the active ingredients?

Our proprietary and unique smoothing treatment formulation is composed of Aloe Vera, Sericin (a component of silk), keratin, Glycolic Acid, vitamins and botanical extracts.

What vitamins and botanical extracts does Cezanne contain?

Cezanne contains Vitamins C, E, B3, B5, B6 and Sugar Cane, Lemon, Apple and Green Tea Extracts.

What is Sericin?

Sericin is a natural protein produced by the silk worm, Bombyx mori. In silk, Sericin acts as cement between filaments of fibroin.

Why Sericin?

Sericin possesses a high affinity for the keratin in hair. In hair, Sericin acts as cement between reticulated proteins, sealing in moisture, adding luster, protecting bonds and locking hair into a smoother, straighter form. There is no other smoothing product in the world that uses Sericin in the way it’s used in Cezanne.

What is Glycolic Acid?

Glycolic Acid is a popular anti-aging ingredient that has been recognized for many years.

Why Glycolic Acid?

Glycolic acid is safe for the stylist and for the client. It fully penetrates the hair shaft, enhancing softness, improving manageability, preventing breakage and protecting from heat.

Our story is one that has evolved from a passionate desire to provide a completely new level of performance to the professional hair care industry through radical reinvention and an unwavering commitment to sustainability.

As we set out to understand the spectrum of today’s product options, we quickly realized that the marketplace has been singing the same tune for a very long time. Whether through emulated ingredients, borrowed technologies or dated formulation structures, the ultimate result has been steady repetition of the status quo. Similar products, similar performance, similar results.

In an industry that demands innovation, we recognized a fundamental need for truly new technology, so we got to work. The rest is history!
At flow™, we have meticulously crafted our formulations from the inside, out. We’ve harnessed performance at the source by revolutionizing hair care’s most important ingredient first…WATER.

By starting with the purist, most crystalline foundation possible, we have developed hair care’s very first dynamic technology system called
H5 ARCHITECTURE™. This customizable system strategically delivers the maximum benefit potential of every ingredient we use, directly to the hair. Instantly, weightlessly, and with unrivaled intensity.

The result is a complete line of sustainably manufactured professional hair care products that provide a new and liberated sense of technical performance.

Cezanne Safe Keratin FAQs

posted in: Hair care tips | 0

Will Cezanne make my hair healthier? Yes! Cezanne does not damage the hair with repeated use, like formaldehyde-based keratin treatments. It makes hair stronger, healthier and improves texture with repeated use.

Are you worried about formaldehyde? We are unlike other smoothing brands in the market in that we provide a 100% formaldehyde-free treatment. Hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested, Cezanne won’t irritate the scalp and won’t release any noxious gases. Our Cezanne After Care products are also free from sulfates, paraben, phthalates and gluten.

Myth #1: All Formaldahyde-Free Treatments Contain 0% Formaldehyde

Several brands claim to be formaldehyde-free when they are not 100% formaldehyde-free. There are, in fact, derivatives of formaldehyde. You may have been told by the manufacturer that there is no formaldehyde when there actually is formaldehyde present in the treatment, just in a different form.

For every smoothing treatment, I ask for the safety records and formulation—an ingredient list from the FDA will reveal if formaldehyde or its derivatives are present. Cezanne is 100% formaldehyde-free. One of the top testing labs in the U.S. performed the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) test on Cezanne Perfect Finish and found no detectable formaldehyde. The HPLC is the test that federal and state governmental agencies reference in reporting related to formaldehyde. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has published methods for testing for formaldehyde, including Method 8315A. These were the tests performed on the Cezanne treatment products by an accredited independent laboratory. The tested samples were taken in salons while stylists were using Cezanne Perfect Finish. There was no detectable formaldehyde in the samples.

Myth #2: Your Hair Will Be Completely Straight and Lose Body

The myth that I make very clear to my clients is #SmoothNotStraight. Without formaldehyde you will not get a pin-straight look, but this is not a bad thing. Cezanne is the perfect treatment for a client transitioning away from formaldehyde because it keeps manageability, retains volume and smoothes the hair, similar to what you’d see with traditional smoothing treatments, but without the loss of overall body and endangerment to your health.

Myth #3: The Fumes Are Noxious

If you’ve received a formaldehyde smoothing treatment, you’ll know it—and everyone in a quarter mile radius will know it—by the fumes. It definitely creates a strong and noxious vapor that stings the eyes and requires the stylist to wear gloves, a mask and use a ventilation system (hopefully).

I will not use a treatment until I’m satisfied that I’m being told the honest truth. I have passion for Cezanne because it’s safe for the environment and for my clients. It produces absolutely no noxious fumes and you don’t have to wear gloves masks or use any special ventilation systems when applying the treatment.

Myth #4: It Damages Your Hair

Cezanne doesn’t just smooth frizz, it actually heals the hair. With repeated use, it makes hair stronger, healthier and improves texture. One of my clients used to have amazingly thick and very textured hair but she flat ironed it so much that it broke off. I came up with a six-month plan for her, using Cezanne, and saw amazing growth in those damaged strands that needed healing.

If you have super porous and damaged hair, I recommend a treatment every eight weeks. Once the hair is back to a healthy state, I lengthen the time between treatments. For my Cezanne clients, I recommend only washing and blow-drying once a week, with a deep conditioning treatment once a week before the blow-dry.

Myth #5: You Can’t Wear Your Hair Curly and It Won’t Hold Curl

Some think that once you smooth your hair, you won’t be able to wear your hair curly. This is false. I’ve been smoothing my hair for years now and I wear my hair curly most days. It has relaxed my curl somewhat but has toned down the frizz tremendously. My curl has become more of a beachy wave.

On days when I want to smooth my hair, I rake through my hair with my fingers until it’s almost dry, then I grab the round brush and finish the blowout. I’ll flat iron the hair but only once every blowout–I don’t continue to flat iron it every day. I generally get three days out of my blowout.

Myth #6: It Washes Out Quickly

The amount of time Cezanne lasts varies by client hair type, texture and maintenance routine. My clients that wash only once a week seem to be able to go three months. The ones like myself that wash more frequently need a treatment more often. Most of my Cezanne clients schedule every two to three months.

Myth #7: You Can’t Color the Same Day

Color can be done before or after the treatment. If color is done after the treatment, you eliminate the issues of lifting color. However, if there is excess residue in the hair after the flat iron, you should wash the hair again before applying color.

Myth #8: You Can’t Wash Hair After the Treatment

Unlike most smoothing treatments, clients can wash their hair, work out, wear ponytails or clips and use styling products immediately after getting a Cezanne treatment.

If you’re interested in finding out what treatments contain formaldehyde and what treatments are 100% formaldehyde-free, reach out. I’ve been testing and researching these treatments for the last three years and am proud to use Cezanne to protect myself and my clients.

Are You Allergic to Hair Color?

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Owning an organic, toxin-free salon, many potential clients call to inquire about the products we use, hopeful that they will finally be able to have their hair colored without the itching and burning so many people think they have to endure. While most people who do experience that discomfort aren’t allergic to the products, many people do have an allergy to an ingredient called para-phenylenediamine, commonly known as PPD.

Exposure to PPD can cause coughing, dizziness, headaches, and labored breathing, according to the CDC website. In addition, some people may see skin irritation, eye pain and swelling and blurred vision. Europe, which has more stringent laws than the U.S., has either banned it altogether or regulate the percentage allowed in hair coloring products to no more than six percent.

At Upstairs Hair Affair, all of our color lines are either entirely free of PPD, with one having less than one percent total. We work hard to ensure we use the proper brand on each of our clients. If you suffer excessive itching or burning at the salon you’ve been loyal to, we are always glad to sit down and talk with you about the best option for you. When necessary, we perform a patch test to make sure you can tolerate the product. A patch test is a simple procedure where we dab a tiny amount of color behind your hair then wait 48 hours to see if you have any adverse reactions to the color. So far those we’ve performed this on have been able to come in and get their hair colored without discomfort.

Finally, our products are also ammonia-free, so the burning and itching you may feel while getting your hair colored at traditional salons doesn’t happen here either!
